Standard 6 - Faclitator
Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students.

Over the course of the school year, I put a great deal of effort into making sure that the Veteran Resource Center is an area that fosters a culture where students can actively take ownership of their learning. The number of desktop computers available to students has more than doubled and we offer free printing on our high capacity printer. The group study are has been improved with new table and chairs to facilitate study groups. The individual study space has been improved with soundproofing so that it can double as a telehealth booth so that students can visit with their provider even with their busy school schedule. Students had issues with access to computers at home, so I started a laptop loan program. Art students needed more robust programs, so I got them the Adobe Creative Suite. I genuinely took care to listen to the facility and technology needs of my student population and did everything in my power to try to best accommodate those needs.
The video below shows some testimonials from student veterans as to how the Veteran Resource Center helps them and the pictures show improvements that have been made to the space during this academic year. Beneath the pictures is the Equipment Loan Request form that allows student veterans to borrow take home tech from the Veteran Resource Center. The VRC has a wealth of resources for students and is a great place to study but it is unrealistic to expect students to spend all of their time there. This is why we allow students to check out things like laptops and computers, so that they can fulfill their course requirements at home or on the go.

I designed this course to manage the use of technology and student learning strategies using a digital platform. Within the course I endeavor to not only create an online environment that flows seamlessly from task to task, but I also wanted the students to be able to collaborate and creatively express their ideas and knowledge with their peers. Using the free and open source Moodle platform, I was able to create an online course that provides authentic learning activities, yet is flexible enough so that students can work independently on their own time, enabling them to work around busy schedules. I took care to ensure that this course is accessible and can accommodate learner differences and needs.
