About Me
Having served ten years in the military and serving in a multitude of leadership positions, I realized that I had a passion for teaching, coaching, and mentoring. This revelation started me down the path toward becoming an educator, and inevitably, so that I could continue pursuing these passions in the civilian sector.
My current research into constructionism and the maker movement combines my knowledge of educational technology and pedagogy with my military background of learning through doing. I see all people as makers by nature and with the current trends in the democratization and affordability of creator technology, there is no reason we should not be able to integrate making into part of our core curriculum.
I currently serve as the Director of the Veteran Resource Center at Western Oregon University. I took this position because, like many of my peers, college was not always easy for me, largely due to some of the unique issues faced by many student veterans. I believe all people deserve an education and I will not allow for any barriers to prevent my fellow veterans from getting their degrees. I have since dedicated myself to the initiation and development of veteran supportive services in higher education.
